Few individuals have influenced a branch of science as profoundly as James Dana influenced Mineralogy. This segment traces Dana’s life and work, beginning with his birth in the village of Utica, New York in 1813. Students follow Dana’s adventures as a student, explorer and professor with emphasis on the time period in which he worked. This video segment also highlights Dana’s development of the first systematic mineral classification system.
