Landforms, Segment One

Segment One: What is a Landform?

This video segment teaches students about landforms and how a region’s geologic history determines the kinds of activities humans can carry out. Students learn that landform development is primarily a process of uplift and erosion. Students also learn the history of the Black Hills of South Dakota and consider the Hills today in terms of their features and the kinds of activities people carry out there. The video introduces major types of landforms including mountains, plateaus and plains. To explore the effect of climate on landforms, the video compares the Alleghany and Colorado Plateaus. Students also explore the Great Plains and the Atlantic Coastal Plain.
