Land vs. Sea: The Interface, Segment Two

Segment Two: Waves

This video segment helps students see that waves are the meeting of wind and water. The video begins by showing students how waves are generated when wind blows over water surface. With high-speed photography, students observe waves as they form ripples and swells. Diagrams superimposed over wave tank footage allow students to learn wave structure terminology. This video segment also illustrates the change in waveform from circular to elliptical as waves reach shallow waters and break on the beach.
