Segment Three: The Beach in Action


This video segment emphasizes that beaches are the interface between water and land. In this video, students go on a walking tour of the beach to observe its features, beauty and dangers. Students learn about the structure of summer and winter beach profiles as well as rip currents, sand transport, offshore bars and long shore currents. Students also learn about how rocky headlands are converted to sandy beaches. The walking tour closes by presenting the challenges of living and building homes at the beach due to the natural processes that cause constant change in coastal landscapes.
