Breaking Down the Rocks, Segment Two

Segment Two: Water Underground

This video segment offers students a look at land water beneath the Earth’s surface. First, the video reviews the water cycle. Students then view a demonstration of underground water movement, illustrating porosity and permeability. Students also learn about the relationship between the water table and bodies of water. Geysers and hot springs are examined as rare occurrences of ground water and igneous activity. Finally, students learn about landforms that develop when ground water interacts with limestone including caverns, sinkholes and disappearing streams.
