Elon Resident Andrew Miller Receives STEM Award

Andrew MillerRESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC –Andrew Miller has received a champion award from the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Center. The SMT Center awarded the EPA at its annual SMT Celebration gala on April 18.

Andrew Miller is a former regional and state NC Science and Engineering Fair award recipient and an INTEL ISEF winner. It was that experience that prompted Andrew to become first a volunteer and then a board member of the N.C. Science and Engineering Fair. In those roles Andrew has spent countless hours behind the scenes and out front ensuring that others have the experiences he had.

Andrew has mentored students as they prepare for ISEF as well as taking time to encourage the youngest participants. As one of the nominators said of Andrew, “He always brings an inspiring and consistent “you can do this, you can be excellent, you can be a scientist or engineer” message to each and everyone of the students by drawing on his own experiences (success and failures) and challenging the students to be engaged and never settle for anything less than their best effort.”

His academic accolades as a Parks Scholar and in the University Scholars Program as an undergraduate at NC State University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2013, places him in a unique position as a mentor and role model to others.

Currently, Andrew is a second-year medical student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
